Let’s Go Walking! Join me for a virtual walking support group

Many of you living with cancer or an autoimmune disease, like me, deal with daily fatigue. You know that exercise is so important to your health, but it’s so hard. There’s always an excuse: it’s too cold or hot, it’s going to rain or it’s raining, or it’s snowy and icy, or I just don’t want to. I, too, have all these excuses, but I have a new rescue dog who wants to go out and who doesn’t care about my excuses! And I’ve got traction devices for my boots. Now I just need a walking group who will keep me accountable. People who say, ‘let’s go for a walk.'

And I thought: What about my virtual friends on MayoClinicConnect?

Mayo Clinic has an easy 12-week walking program to get us started! Here’s the link:
- Get walking with this 12-week walking schedule https://newsnetwork.mayoclinic.org/discussion/get-walking-with-this-12-week-walking-schedule/

So let’s form a virtual walking group. We can agree to walk every day and encourage each other through Connect. We can walk outdoors, in a mall, or in the red center, or in the hallways of our apartment building.

Who’s in? Who’s going to join me?

Come on, Let’s Go Walking!

I walked 8,028 steps today.
I’m in Las Vegas and may hit 10,000 steps tomorrow.
I never thought I’d see the day
I ‘d walk that far.
And I did it with only 1 piece of Key Lime pie. Tomorrow is cheesecake day and I found 3 ice cream shops here in the hotel so far. I’ll be hunting down candy stores tomorrow. priorities you know.

Las Vegas! Know it well. My parents retired there and downtown casinos was where the regulars (non tourists) went.
You can rack up a lot of miles walking around but make sure you do it inside the casinos at this time of year. The heat is a killer.
If you get thirsty after visiting all the sweet places, plop yourself down at a slot machine and flag down a waitress. She will bring you your beverage of choice..don’t forget to tip. Enjoy and I bet you hit 10,000.

I’m jealous.

@jakedduck1 Wow, 8,000 steps! Here, at altitude, I have trouble getting to 2,000. How have you been doing, Jake? I’ve missed all of your joking around. Why are you in Las Vegas? Gambling? Eating good meals? Going to shows? Walking? Behaving yourself?

I decided to to come to go to the Sphere to see the Wizard of Oz but it doesn't start until then end of the month. I'll be coming back for that. The Sphere is a must see and the show tonight called Postcard from Planet Earth was magnificent. The LED screen is the largest in the world, 160,000 sq ft.
I walked 13,362 steps today and never left the hotel.
Oh yes, eating good for sure. Found 3 chocolate stores, 3 or 4 ice cream shops and some good looking cookies that tomorrow will cease to exist. Great cheesecake, brownies (with ice cream, of course) and Key Lime Pie. First time I ever tried that. since a bottle of water cost $12 in the hotel at least for a small bottle I went next-door to a drugstore and bought some water and of course I had to load up on candy bars too.
Going downtown tomorrow.
Behaving myself?, not on your life, I’m here to have fun.
Take care,
Jake
