Laminectomy of L4-l5 and scar tissue repair l3&l4 recovery
I am curious if anyone has any advice on recovery. My boyfriend had right hip replacement in April of this year and end of October after months of physical therapy he developed drop foot on the left side with debilitating pain in calf and thigh on left side.
We went to a pain management doctor he ordered an mri. After the mri he sent him directly to a spinal surgeon due to nerve impingement on l4&l5 and potential cyst on l3&l4. My boyfriend does have spinal stenosis which is heredity.
He had a Laminectomy onl4&l5 and scar tissue removed from l3&l4 from a previous disc surgery 30 years ago.
He will be two week recovering this Monday 11/27 and we have been to the surgeon twice since due to his incision bleeding a lot. We returned 5 days aftee surgery due to bandage saturation. The doctor said it was normal and to monitor it. My boyfriend was in excruciating pain and did take oxycodone and Tylenol but couldn’t take the muscle spasm medication due to a drug interaction. The debilitating pain was present but started to subside. We returned again 5 days later and the surgeon said the bleeding was more than likely an unresolved hemotoma under the skin and did several compression and rebandaged it. We are suppose to go back this Monday to review the wound. He has no fever and is now on antibiotics but the wound is still leaking almost a very thin yellow watery substance. It is not pooling but bandage does need to be changed. There is no puss or fever. Our main concern besides that is he is getting what he describes as being tazzerrd feeling from the hips down the legs. It hurts so much to walk he gets scared into place. It seems to happen more when he sits for long periods of time. He happens less when he has slept and gotten. Up but that happens too. We are afraid the surgery has failed or something is more serious than just it hurting from surgery. He does have managed diabetes so not sure if that effects. Just curious if anyone has any experience like this. Any helpful positive advise is welcome.
Ps no improvement with the drop foot

I'm sorry you are going through this. Although I've not had a hip replacement , what you describe does sound as if there is something else going on. My suggestion would be an ER visit so you are able to have some tests run and an opinion from someone new. Perhaps an ER where your current dr. does not practice. Best of luck.
