Knee replacement surgery 5 months ago

Posted by barrington @barrington, Jul 9, 2023

Stating day of surgery have had muscle spams & knee buckling. This continues 5 months after surgery. 7/5/2023 had EMG testing. During test had spams in leg lasting 15+ minutes. Test showed no nerve damage. Next step is seeing a neurologist. Due to buckling still need to use a cane. Looking for possible answers for why this continues from day 1 of surgery.

Forgot to add that during surgery body temperature went down to 93 degrees F. In recovery 2 hours until it reached 95.

Sounds like you are definitely having nerve cell activity which is causing the spasms. The tests might not of shown any nerve cell but on a cellular level they are working hard to bring things back yo normal.
I found that tge medication lPregabaline (Lyrica) really helped me. It is for nerve related pain.
Also, it is important to stay as active as you can. Might not seem like it is possible when you are in pain but try to find something you can di. Aquafit is great, using a stationary exercise bike with no tension is goo too.
Also just lying on your back with your legs up in the air moving them in a cycling motion is good exercise as well

Thanks for the suggestions
Taking Gabapentin. Have appointment with neurologist on Monday. With cane can walk 2+ miles. You are absolutely right about staying active. Fortunately not in pain.
