Knee replacement blues
I'm Australian but we have the same knees right ! I'm week 7 today, and I had a ' stumble ' a few weeks ago on a step out the back, my knee gave way and I pulled a muscle in my thigh .. I feel like my confidence has gone downhill now, I'm waiting for the day that I don't feel restricted with swelling .

How scary!
Best wishes.
Hi Mate, join the misery club. You're still in the early stage of a long recovery but rest assured it will get better. You're going through the phase where hope seems to dwindle but you Aussies are a tough lot. Hang in there!
Hi, The swelling can get so much better ! At 7 months post op from staged bilateral knee replacement. I have no further pain or swelling but some stiffness if I sit too long. The swelling takes time to decrease for some people, mine was not really noticeable at 3 months.
The swelling is a definite thing. I think mine went away fully at about the 5 month mark. I get stiffness if I sit too long. Got an apple watch for Christmas and it helps that it tells me to stand up every so often...set a timer on your phone if you don't have a watch. You're on the right path...hang in there!
Yes. As others speak it is a long haul. And the surgeons will not commit to any dirty details.
I had successful placement of the device. I am not over weight, and have an athletic background. This has been a miserable rehab for me. PT is now fessing up that I could be easily a ‘12-monther’ and maybe 18. My problems vary. Incredible stiffness, roving ligament and tendons pain. Bursitis tendinitis, and sprains have been a part of my life due to aggressive PT. But then if I take a break I am not helping the ROM and stiffness. It is a daily Rubik’s cube.
Ice, ice, ice. It has been my best friend and I stay with any drugs that help with the sleep. (And thru month 6 I was still getting up out of bed to tamp out a ‘fire’ with ice.) Clinicians say hang in there but I AM NOT HAVING A SECOND KNEE DONE. Orthopedic surgeons need to come up with a far improved idea than this stupid device idea.
I have been using tubigrip for years. Pull it in and leave it . Ice over it. Really controls the swelling. Amazon or I get mine from pt. Works great 👍
Boycott Amazon. Just saying.
I know we are not supposed to be political on this forum, but yes, boycott Jeff Bezo’s and his businesses including Whole Foods! That being said, ice, movement and patience are needed for a successful recovery.
