New knee is larger than the other, anyone else have this?
Had total knee replacement 6 months ago.
New knee is huge compared to good knee. Is that normal ?

Hi Phil @dover1036, My knee was a little larger compared to my other one for a month or so following my TKR due to the swelling. When you say huge I'm thinking much bigger than normal and probably causing some discomfort. Are you still icing and elevating the knee/leg? Have you discussed the swelling with your surgeon or care team?
My knee is half inch larger than other, 1” larger above the knee. I think it impedes my ability to go down steps easily.
Every morning is a series of stretches, weights and exercises, ibuprofen to get it moving.
I can walk on it fine, but after almost 8 months, not what I expected.
I’m in the same boat as you. It has been just over 7 months since my TKR. The swelling in my knee is slowly going away. At the rate it is going down, I won’t be back to normal until maybe this summer. Thank goodness it is not painful. Good luck
My first knee was done 2 years ago (PKR) It took a full year before the dimensions went completely back to as before, and that same full year until as before skin elasticity. My right knee was done 2 months ago. That knee too is about one inch larger yet circumferentially. The size does not cause pain or disfunction on my knees but yes it does very slightly mean less range of motion on my recent surgical knee. My left knee done 2 years ago has slightly increased ROM probably because of less bone spurs internally. good luck to all. My knee surgery has benefitted me a lot.
I am almost 12 weeks post op tkr and battle the stiffness. When should this diminish?
6 months out....I still have stiffness mainly if I sit to long and getting up in the morning.
I had the same problem
Dr drained the fluid 2-3 times from the knee. But swelling. will keep on coming back. I was buckling and falling down frequently.
Then blood work was done. Found out I am allergic to Nickel. That what surgeon put in the knee
Another surgery had to be done
I had both my knees done seven months ago and I wouldn’t think that much swelling at this time would be considered normal. I’ve been told it takes a complete year to heal from a knee replacement. My swelling diminished fairly quickly after six weeks and now what I find is I experience stiffness when I don’t move or if I lay down too long. My legs feel much better if I make sure I walk at least 5km+ a day.
I regularly elevated and iced my both knees, three times a day for the first three months so I found that helped. I would definitely be investigating the cause of so much swelling at this stage of the game. But I wouldn’t be surprised if they told you you have to wait at least a year before they can determine if anything is a concern.
