Knee pain, patella tendon

Posted by iamadude21 @iamadude21, Feb 9, 2023

I have knee pain below my knee cap with acitivity. Occasionally it aches when doing nothing. Pain is mostly present during activities with load(squats, lunges). Pain is usually below 4/10 but occasion it will be greater. Pain doesnt linger, no swelling or bruising. Alot of creaking and cracking during movement. Feels like there is a slight indent on my patella tendon, feels different than the other one. Main concern is my patella fees misshapen, almost like it dips below my kneecap. Other than that, pain is very manageable. Have been doing rehab on my own, eccentric training mostly. Wondering if anyone has experienced similar and if I should contact an orthopedist to take a look.

Good evening @lamadude21, Welcome to Connect. The best news about Connect is that we share our experiences to help others. Everyone responds to injuries and the treatments for them in different ways. Did you have surgery on your knee? Was it a TKR (Total Knee Replacement)? How long ago was that and did you participate in PT post-surgery? Final question......was this robotic, minimally invasive surgery?

I have had two TKRs 10 years apart and they are different. The kneecaps even feel like they are made from different materials and I think they are. I also have some creaking and cracking during movement. And once in a while, my IT band flares up a bit. However, I walk about 2-3 miles 4 times a week, (when it is warmer than 10 below Zero). I do daily stretches and some special exercises for balance and stability. They include stair climbing and toe /heel walking and the knees perform well. Here is a photo of both knees from about a year ago and you can see the difference in shape.
