Knee nerve pain after total knee replacement

Posted by Richard @zman42, 2 days ago

Hello:
I am 8 weeks out from a TKA and have nerve pain.
My research indicates that during this surgery, the nerves, including the saphenous nerve, are severed to allow the surgeon access to the knee joint.
This process can cause nerve damage and possibly a neuroma.
I have been told that the nerve pain will subside over time.
The research I have done indicates that if the nerves are indeed damaged, there should be timely intervention to prevent more complications.
I am very proactive with my health and feel that I need to be tested, including an ultrasound.
Would appreciate any feedback.
Thank you

This will improve during more recovery. I had neuropathy in my foot for several months.
I am 8 months post op and this has improved.
Keep praying 🙏 and pushing through.

Good morning, Richard (@zman42)

You have a greater understanding of what's involved in a TKR than I ever did. I got my TKR about 20 years ago and have had few if any complications immediately after or since. In fact, only a few years ago my orthopedic doc pronounced my TKR still "well anchored." What has surprised me over all these years are the various aches and ouches I still get from that knee. Because of my PN and related leg weakness, I do a reasonable among of leg strengthening exercise, including thrusts and sit-to-stands. Following these, I often find both my knees complaining, my TKR knee as well as my "birth" knee. I had thought I'd be spared discomfort in my "tin" knee, but apparently not.

I wish you well, Richard.

Cheers!

Nine years ago, my knee was a TKR.
Tough! The first six weeks are the worst.
I found a project to do, to take my mind off the pain.
I have neuropathy pain and stiffness in e HR feet, not all the toes. I am an avid tennis and not joe player, in addition to biking, hiking, and walking (also weights)
Keep up the PT, and give it time. I play 3-4 hours a day with sports and I am 70.
