Keep falling
Hi I’m new here. I’m a 43 year old female and in the last night quite a year I have fallen 10 times. At work in stores at home. I started using a walker to see if that would help but fell using the walker yesterday. I have been to three different hospitals! Mayo Mercy and twin cities orthopedic. I do have arthritis in my right knee and it is always swollen and painful. I went to seek help with the pain. And one doctor told me to live with the pain I was to young for a knee replacement. The second doctor gave me a shot in the knee that last three days and was back to being in pain. And the third doctor told me I was fat and needed to loose weight and then I would feel better. I have done physical therapy and that didn’t help and became so expensive since my insurance doesn’t cover it. It has gotten to the point where I need help to get out of bed, going to the bathroom. I use my walker at work since I’m on my feet for 8 hours a day. I’m tired of being in pain and feeling like my body is giving up on me and is breaking down. I just want someone to help me. And find out what’s wrong with me. Can someone please help me. I don’t know what else to do

What do you think the underlying issue is? Pain, knee weakness, overall balance? Something else?
I honestly don’t know. I’m in pain all the time. It’s like my legs forget how to move.
Have you thought about an evaluation by a neurologist? You say your body is breaking down. I am so sorry and have been there. Is it time to stop working and just care for yourself.? I quite understand what that would mean. Are you sleeping eating nutritious food staying hydrated? Havd you had any recent lab work like a comprehensive metabolic profile? Are you taking any prescription drugs or OTC meds that as an adverse effect could be causing the falls?
Has your primary done complete exam and labs? I’d wonder why local pain would cause general weakness. Your primary may be able to determine what kind of specialist you need.
@wernera
So sorry to hear of your health issues. Do you have family/friends to help you?
You definitely need to see a neurologist for bloodwork, EMG/nerve conduction studies, etc. to see what is behind your muscle control issues and weakness. Your knee may just be injured due to your falls and muscle control issues (imbalances) and you should have a MRI/ultrasound to check for soft tissue injury to know what treatment options there are. Having an injured knee plus muscle weakness in legs makes you at risk for falls and you really need to prevent further falls.
Your bloodwork should include:
Creatine Kinase (CK) Levels: Elevated levels can indicate muscle damage.
Autoantibody Tests: These tests check for specific antibodies associated with different types of myositis, such as anti-Jo-1 or anti-SRP antibodies.
Inflammatory Markers: Tests for markers like ESR (Erythrocyte Sedimentation Rate) or CRP (C-reactive protein).
I go to the doctor for a foliow up for my fall acouple days ago. I’m hoping she can help me. But I’ve seen so many doctors and no one will help me. I really just want to give up and “live with it” like they all have told me. I’m at the end of my rope. I will see if the doctor will do these tests and refer me to a neurologist. But not expecting much to be honest. My husband says say strong and we will figure it all out.
I guess what I’m asking is if a doctor has examined the entire body, vitals, blood pressure, temp, blood sugar, liver function, heart function, kidney function, etc. to see if there’s some illness, infection, etc, Or did you see an orthopedic doctor who just looks at your painful knee and says it’s a knee problem? Most ortho doctors look at the limb in question and not explore the whole body to see what the core problem is.
Dear @wernera thx also @dlydailyhope and all,
I fall down, even after my end-of-pain. My balance is not there from and “accidence” (falling down when my rear-ends) in my garage from my car. I lost my body from my rear-ends to bottom on my feet.
Yes, I am a TBI member 12 years ago of hitting my head on the brain from a stopped bicycle. But - could you imagine of losing different ways in your life? It’s me… - falling down - a different one - on my hear-ends. Well, one of my doctors - from my TBI 12 years ago - found on my back to my rear-ends … he fixed on my lower back of my pain; it was gone. But still my falling down is still here.
Now think, my balance is better, but still of anything it’s here… I exercise - of somewhat - my legs and lifting.
Thx,
Greg D. @greg1956
I have actually have seen an ortho doctor. He is the one that called me far and told me to live with it. And regular doctors. Who said the same thing.
So the doctor went ok today. Have a ct scan scheduled for Thursday. And they want to schedule some muscle and nerve test as well. So we will see what happens
