IsoPSA Test Results: Is 6.8 high?
I have had an enlarged prostate for years. I have taken an isopsa that has a result of 6.8 is this high. I am 68 years old and do not know if this is high. I am going to get an MRI the last of October and would like to know if this will tell if I have cancer. Prostate cancer does not run in my family.

From what I have read 6.8 is a bit high but not uncommon with an enlarged prostate at your age. Good you are having an MRI. But only Biopsy can really confirm cancer. Not everybody with high PSA/enlarged prostate end up having cancer. Wishing you all the best!

2 ReactionsIf I remember correctly 6.0 is the cutoff. If you are < 6, then you can be quite certain not to have clinically significant PCa. If it is >6, your likelihood increased, but the test still has a lit of false positives. Mine was 13, and I indeed had cancer.

1 ReactionWith an enlarged prostate, that isn’t very high. Had a friend who had a large prostate and his PSA was always around 50 but multiple biopsies found nothing. How big is it, Over 100cc?
An MRI can probably find if you have tumors that are possibly prostate cancer. If they are high PIRADS (4 or 5) then you definitely need a biopsy.

1 Reactionthank you all I fell better.
@jeffmarc He referred to an isopsa test, which is an alternative to a pse. I.e. a test if psa is somewhat elevated, but you still might be able to avoid the biopsy.

1 ReactionYou can also request a PSE test, which we provide you 94% certainty of whether or not you have prostate cancer.

2 ReactionsCleveland dx did an isopsa test and mine came back 6.8. I have the report where is the gleason score on it.
@jnj
You get a Gleason score from a biopsy or from examination of your prostate after its been removed.

1 Reactionthank you I am new to this, I am going for an mri
@jnj
An MRI will tell whether or not there is any evidence of tumors in your prostate. If there are, they will give them a PIRADS score of 1-5. A PIRADS of three through five means that you should get a biopsy if your PSA has also risen. Four and five score are definitely showing cancer, The three score is iffy.
A PSE test can show if there is cancer In your system. If it shows none then you don’t need a biopsy.
