Is this PN?

Posted by midweststeve @midweststeve, 1 day ago

Had an off/on swelling sensation and burning in the balls and toes of both feet. Always both feet same time and always relieved by removing shoes. After 2-3 years 99% of it went away over a couple of weeks. I started running more and was doing great for about nine months. Practiced sprints one day and the next day the swelling/burning was back, except 2-3x as bad.

Trying to figure out if this is PN so I can focus on how to improve.

Thanks!

@midweststeve
Pressure, heat, swelling can aggravate small nerve fibers in feet. I have small fiber neuropathy and it started in my feet with burning on tops and bottoms of both feet. It was worse when walking longer than normal and in warm/hot weather. Taking shoes off, using cool compresses and soaking in cool water with Epsom salt helps.

You may want to see a podiatrist and or neurologist to get tested for neuropathy (bloodwork, scans, biopsy, etc.). If you are deficient or at toxic levels of vitamins or have prediabetes/diabetes, this needs to be treated to treat the neuropathy.

Magnesium, lidocaine and capsaicin creams or patches can help with symptoms. I also take alpha Lipoic acid, Acetyl l carnitine and magnesium supplements which helps reduce symptoms.

Hello @midweststeve, I would like to add my welcome to Connect along with @dlydailyhope and others. I also think that a podiatrist might be a good place to start. The symptoms you shared does sound similar to metatarsalgia. Mayo Clinic has some information here - https://www.mayoclinic.org/diseases-conditions/metatarsalgia/symptoms-causes/syc-20354790.
