Is there any new injection therapies for joints(hip) besides steroids?

You can try PRP,
(plasma rich platelets)
stem cell injections or hyaluronic acid injections.
Unfortunately none of these are covered by any insurance and are very expensive.

Spot on Jim. I've had both knees replaced and one hip. I never had a shot other than cortisone, and those rarely worked.

I have a buddy at the gym who recently got a gel injection. He said his knee was very painful for two days after the injection, then calmed down.

Just my opinion - if a person is bone-on-bone in any joint and this is a source of daily pain, affecting daily activities and sleeping - it's time to look at a total joint replacement. The hip is probably the easiest recovery, but they are all major and traumatic procedures. It's so important to come into the surgery in good shape (all things considered), and to follow the rehab and timeline recommendations exactly. In all of my replacements, I met these circumstances and the surgery eliminated all the pain I had.

Best wishes to all!

Joe
