Is there any med that relieves mild but constant pain?

Posted by cekkk @cekkk, Sep 19 10:58am

Tomorrow I am scheduled to drive sixty miles into the city to visit the pain management chap that the ortho Doctors I saw four years ago use. At that time, they offered me 3 or 4 opioid type medicines to help with the peroneal nerve pain, none of which did any good. I understand the one I am to see tomorrow does not prescribe opioids at all. I mention that only as information, as I Never used any of the previously supplied drugs for more than two or three days.

My Question is, Are new and effective drugs available today that were not available 4 years ago? Is it worth it to make the drive?

No. You’ll be offered Gabapentin and. An SSRI. Nothing helps this disease. I’ve researched all of these boards and all of the forums. There are ZERO answers. The only drug even in play is in phase 3 delay awaiting funding. That drug Pirazipine I think by Winsantor May be ready in another 5 years but I doubt it

That is what I believed before I even wrote this post. But it has been four years and I thought I would check before canceling.

LOL. See even the other forum members offer up Gabapentin. Someone else will come along and ask you about Tricyclic SSRIs. Nor or Amitryptiline

The only time I realize that gabapentin is helpful is when I try to ween myself off of it.

Have you looked into Low Dose Naltrexone? Might be worth discussing with your doctor…

I have a spinal cord injury that was causing peroneal nerve pain in my right leg and foot. I had a ton of PT, which helped, but the pain actually improved when I had a spinal cord stimulator implanted. I don't know if this would work for your particular situation, but it might be worth bringing up with your pain doc.

I'm going to talk to our family doc (NP if I want to go walk-in) about LDN. My DW could have benefit beyond my need. She has experienced extreme fatigue since a very mild covid illness almost two years ago. This could be a separate thread but suffice to say she.Entered the ER after three or four months of being nearly bedridden. She was experiencing dehydration and some I.V.Fluids pepped her up for a few hours. They ran all Sorts of tests on her in a short time and declared. She was the healthiest 78-year-old they had ever seen but needed to gain about ten pounds. Our family doc says the same thing. Maybe this is for her more than me. Thank
You to those Who brought this to my attention.
