@amillisp you are fortunate to have a good doctor. It is known to be better to do a bone builder first, like Tymlos, and then follow up with an anti-resorptive, like Fosamax. Tymlos builds quality bone and Fosamax can help to "lock in" what you gained. Tymlos was very effective for me.

If you do Fosamax first (as insurance wants us to do) it may interfere with the effectiveness of Tymlos if you went to that next. Your doctor prescribed the commonly accepted most effective sequence.

Tymlos and Forteo are similar in the way they work. So you can choose whichever one has the better price. The companies also have financial assistance programs. Radius makes Tymlos and you can find their assistance program online: "Radius Assist."

I chose Tymlos because I did not tolerate Forteo, while others tolerate Forteo better. Tymlos has an adjustable pen so I started at a low dose and increased it so my body could adjust. Tymlos is especially good for spine.

Tymlos and Forteo do not pose any problems with dental work. Bisphosphonates like Reclast and Fosamax, and Prolia, and to a lesser extent Evenity, can sometimes cause problems with jaw and dental work. But Tymlos and Forteo are fine in that regard.

@windyshores is the finest resource. She has experience with both Tymlos and Forteo. And Evenity and Reclast. She's convinced me that Tymlos is a little more effective than Forteo, especially in the spine, but overall.
I've had an easy time with Forteo and my dxa after a year indicates that my bones are strengthening.
If your insurance resists paying for Forteo or Tymlos and wants you to take the less expensive Fosamax, your physician will challenge the refusal. It really is best to take the anabolic first.
