Is Evenity next?

I have just finished my 2-year protocol of Tymlos with pretty good results. Now it’s time to decide, once again what to do to hold my gains. My cardiologist suggested bioidentical hormones which I began a month age for bone health as well as to increase my hormones which are severely lacking. My rheumatologist wants me on another osteo med (Reclast, Evenity or Prolia). I would prefer not to take Reclast or Prolia for different reasons and would prefer not to take Evenity but am considering it. I’d love to hear from anyone who is currently on Evenity with your experience with this medication. My biggest concern is going in to my docs office to have the injection monthly. We travel a lot and I wouldn’t be here every month to have the injection. That’s a problem. I’d really appreciate any info on side effects you’ve encountered as well. Appreciate any and all info. Thanks so much. Rose 🌹

The good thing about injections in the doctors office is that its free when the doctor injects it, but my Tymlos cost $600 a month (my portion) because I inject it myself. Also, how soon did you see positive results with the Tymlos. I've been on it 7 months and no change with my osteoporosis. Also did your heart race soon after the injection?

Hi Diane…I only had a $20 co-pay with Tymlos thank God. My insurance covered the rest. I began Tymlos in June of 22 and in October of 23 I had a 10.3% improvement in my spine. Worse in my hips but I just had another scan done and had an additional 3.4% improvement in my spine and 2.5% in my hips. So I’m pleased. I just began bioidentical hormones last month and hope that will hold my gains but my doc wants me on Evenity for further improvement.
Yes I did have racing heart after my injections but then decided to inject at night before bed so I didn’t notice them if there was an increase in heart rate.
This med is one of the best and I had very few side effects…some bone pain, nausea, weight gain, but nothing that would cause me to stop.
I pray you will see some great gains…stay the course, it’s worth it! Rose 🌹

I have been on Prolia for almost 3 years and my bone density is not improving. My doctor wants me to take Tymlos/Forteo or Evenity. But given this discussion about Evenity's side effects, I am hesitant.

I have just watched a video of Dr. Ben Lerner, an endocrinologist at Harvard, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pV5maUhAjOA
About 28 minutes in, he shows studies have shown (2015) that going from Tymlos to Prolia resulted in good outcomes BUT going the other way produced very bad outcomes. He actually says that if a doctor suggests putting you on Tymlos AFTER Prolia, say no.
So I'm concerned that my doctor isn't aware of this.
I am also concerned about the costs of Evenity -- I'm only 64 years old, so not on Medicare--and with the side effects.
In addition, what happens after the year of Evenity?

@nguttman Hi, there are many on here more capable of answering your comment than I, but I will try my best to help.

I believe what Dr Leder was referring to is if you've never been on any therapy for OP it is best to start with the group of anabolics recommended. It's not at all "bad" to have been in your situation, but what may happen is the anabolics have proven to be less effective. Having not had gains will there be a rebound or risk of fracture, very possible, so I do think your Dr is on the right path.

Some of us have no reactions to the OP drugs and some do, you won't know unless you try. I've had 1 evenity without any noticeable unpleasant reactions.

Wishing you the best.
