Is anyone using Tymlos or Forteo in combination with BHRT?

After 18 months of using the hyperparathyroid medications (Forteo and Tymlos), I am afraid to take the typically recommended medications to lock in gains. I am very sensitive to medications. I wonder how it would work to continue with a half dose of Tymlos and bioidentical HRT. My Endo had recommended Evista with Tymlos, but I have read that estrogen is stronger and of course more natural.

I am 74, currently taking a half dose of Tymlos, have asked 5 doctors for BHRT and all have said no. I finally went to a functional physician who was more than willing to give it to me. Of course it is cash only to see her. I may start taking 0.014 mg of Menostar transdermal E2 and 50 mg of compounded bioidentical progesterone. It is scary because my grandmother had breast cancer and I have suffered from endometriosis in the past. I have had a hysterectomy, but still have both ovaries, one tube and a cervix. I have the option to take the DUTCH test which will give some indication of how I metabolize hormones and the likelihood of breast cancer.

Both my endos just said that I can now take Evenity, Reclast or Prolia. I have two tooth root resorptions and will need dental work soon. Also, I have a plate and screws in my hand from previous surgery that I would like taken out. Prolia and Reclast are not good for these surgeries. I might try Evenity, if I didn't have to lock in gains with one of those two. Has anyone tried the combination of Tymlos or Forteo with estrogen? If so, have you had any luck?

Great question!

I was actually curious about your 50mg compounded progesterone - since you've had a hysterectomy, you technically don't need it, right? Estrogen alone has been shown to carry a lower breast cancer risk (and lower risks of other health issues) compared to the estrogen + progestin combo - not just in WHI study, but in some meta-analyses too.

Thanks so much @mayblin. I need to consider this. The functional physician just said that she likes to keep the hormones balanced. She thought the progesterone would also help with bones. There are those who think that bioidentical is much safer than progestin. Sometimes progesterone is recommended because I had endometriosis. I'm on my way to another Dr's appointment a long distance away. I will have to get back to you later.
