I'm due for a colonoscopy, but my records say no.
It was first discovered that I produce pre-cancerous colon polyps in 1993. Since then, I've been having colonoscopies on a fairly regular basis. My last one was in January 2022. The doctor found 4 polyps--3 benign and one (the biggest one) was a Tubulovillous adenoma. The doctor told me that because of that one, he wanted me to have another colonoscopy in 2025, but the records are messed up. First, someone put an unsigned note in front of the one the doctor signed saying that I did not need another colonoscopy for 10 years. When I checked the records before Christmas, someone had put a note my records that I don't need to have this done any more because it is "inappropriate," which I've been told is medical-speak for saying that I'd had 2 "clean" colonoscopies in a row and therefore do not need to have this done any more.
I changed my care to another hospital in 2023. At that time, the record they got from my previous hospital was saying I did not need another one for 10 years and the note signed by the doctor was gone. When I asked for a correction, I was told that only the doctor who performed it could change the record. The problem is that some of his nurses prevent patients from seeing him privately. He's a nice guy and I suspect that he has no idea how these nurses keep patients away from him.
I don't have a gastroenterologist at my new hospital. I plan to try to get an appointment with one. It will probably take several months for me to get in to see one. I plan to take the lab report and explain that the records from the other hospital are messed up, but that the doctor there may be able to verify what I'm saying. Does this sound workable?
