I was diagnosed with osteoporosis in L&R femoral necks. 8/23.

I am afraid to take any medication as many of my family & friends have had severe side effects. I take 5,000 IU Vit D a day. Not recommended to take calcium d/t post menopause with history of bil. Pulmonary emboli. I am concerned about blood clots. I am trying to find clarification on whether bone density exercises and weight lifting exercises and collagen may keep this at bay a little while longer.I am 71. So many contradictory reports! Does anyone have a specialist they would recommend seeing? ? Endocrinologist?, orthopedic Dr? My PMD is not very helpful.

Endocrinologist has been good for me. If your scores are relatively severe, you could consider Tymlos, which has an adjustable injection pen. I started with a low dose and ramped up slowly and actually never did a full dose, but had excellent gains. You do have to "lock in" the gains with Reclast or Fosamax but then can take a break. I was your age when I started Tymlos!

Is Tymlos very expensive. My sister tried to use it and cannot afford it. Insurance will not cover so she is on Prolia

I got free Tymlos through the company for 18 months: I met income limits. On my Medicare Advantage plan it was $85 for the remaining time. If you arre under 65 I believe there are coupons. Call Radius!

My endocrinologist was no help, told me to take tums if I wouldn’t take the meds. And he is the only endo within 100 miles of me.
You can arrange an on line consult with Dr R Keith McCormick, https://www.osteonaturals.com/, as well as Dr Doug Lucas, https://www.optimalhumanhealth.com/. I’m sure there are others.
Since you already have health concerns in other areas, I’d be careful going the DIY route.
Good luck on your journey.

I will try locking in with hrt. Some evidence it works. Talking with functional medicine soon.

@sallyj2 what medicine did you get gains with, that you want to lock in? I lose track sometimes on this forum!

I had gains -20% after magnesium, but I’m likely trying Tymlos and most of my doctors don’t like bisphosphenates for me, so we’re hoping hrt will lock in. Some evidence it does to a lesser degree. I’m fortunate to be able to take hrt.

I am in a similar situation and have the same questions. Hoping for answers too. Thanks.
