Posted by terryhill @terryhill, Jul 22, 2023

I’m an international student on student visa in Australia, 35 years old diagnosed of PNet.., my hospital won’t confirm my booking for planned surgery in coming days if fund are not paid because I’m on overseas student health cover with basic or limited cover.

Please I need help with financial organization or cancer support who can finance my surgery.

I appreciate any suggestions thanks

@terryhill, what a horrible position to find yourself in away from home. Here are some ideas:
* Contact patient organizations that may offer help like:
--CancerCare https://www.cancercare.org/financial
--American Cancer Society https://www.cancer.org/cancer/financial-insurance-matters.html
--Contact the Carcinoid Cancer Foundation https://www.carcinoid.org/

* Ask if your hospital has a Charitable Care or Financial Assitance program

* Ask to speak to an oncology social work who can help find financial aid
– How an Oncology Social Worker Can Help https://connect.mayoclinic.org/blog/cancer-education-center/newsfeed-post/how-an-oncology-social-worker-can-help/

Is returning home to Australia an option for you?

Thanks a lot @colleenyoung for your relief response.

I will try to checkout those or contact with your recommendations.

Australia have a better healthcare system when compared to my home country and I would love to have any support to get the surgery done here or other countries with better healthcare providers for NET patients

@terryhill, I seem to have misunderstood. Your home country is not Australia, but you are studying there.

To find out more about financial support in Australia, I suggest the Australian Cancer Council:
- Practical and financial assistance https://www.cancer.org.au/support-and-services/practical-and-financial-assistance

I hope they can lead you to financial assistance suited to your circumstances.
