I'm sorry to hear of your dad's diagnosis. I know it's scary and you're smart to try to learn about this disease. No one knows why someone gets this disease. The good news is that it's typically slow growing and there's more treatment options than ever before. My first and most important suggestion is to have your dad see a net specialist. General oncologists typically don't have the knowledge to properly treat this disease and the proper sequencing of the treatments. You can find a specialist near you at
https://netrf.org/for-patients/neuroendocrine-tumor-doctor-database/
You can start to learn about nets at

Next take a deep breath. There's many many people who have been living with this for many many years, including my husband who was diagnosed 17 years ago.
Stay strong for your dad.

I agree with Linda totally. I was diagnosed in 2013 and likely had this cancer much longer than that. Thankfully since my initial diagnosis and surgery to remove my primary tumor, the only treatment I receive is a monthly hormone injection which is very normal for neuroendocrine tumor cancer patients. I also return to my cancer center every 8 months for an MRI scan to see what is happening in my body. My cancer had spread to my liver and other areas, but after 12 years the tumors in my liver and other areas are not active and I live quite normally.

As far as how did your father get this cancer...none of us know how we got it, but now that he knows it is there,
encourage and support him. It is quite a blow to be told "you have cancer". I will never forget that day...
Also, be sure your father finds a NET specialist. This cancer is not like "other" cancers and must be treated correctly. God bless you and your family.

I was diagnosed December, 2022, and most likely had it for 6-8 years prior undetected.. There is quite a few treatment possibilities, but I believe that only a NET oncologist is fully aware of.. prayers for your father and family..
