Hypercalciuria: Hydrochlorothiazide & Eventi

Posted by dplx9467 @dplx9467, Dec 4 2:36pm

Hi! I was recently diagnosed with osteoporosis (-3.4 in my spine) and hypercalciuria (after seeing the endocrinologist). I had pretty much decided to move forward with Evenity in my first meeting with the endocrinologist on her recommendation. After the Hypercalciuria results, the endocrinologist prescribed me hydrochlorothiazide and suggested I come in to discuss medicine again. I was wondering if anyone had experience with their scores improving just from the hydrochlorothiazide and how a Hypercalciuria diagnosis affected their medicine choice, if at all. Thank you!

hi @dplx9467
your diligent md wants to find out whatever connection there might be between hypercalicuria and osteoporosis and to determine the cause of hypercalicuria before beginning treatment for osteoporosis. Hypercalicuria can be a cause of bone loss expecially if there is parathyroid involvement
HCZT will lower the amount of calcium in your urine. The medication would take a long while toeffect change in the bone density of the spine.
Tymlos and Forteo can increase hypercalicuria. Evenity is said not to, but is not advised for someone with caridac risks--which I mention because HCZT is sometimes prescribed to lower blood pressure.
I rather wish the doctor had explained their reasoning for delaying the previously recommended Evenity.
Are you rescheduled already and are there other tests ordered?

The only thing I can tell you about the hydrochlorothiazide is that it may have contributed to me having hyperparathyroidism. I’m not saying that it will do it with everybody, but I think it contributed to me having it. You can talk with the endocrinologist about it. I wish you much luck in finding the answers and relief you need. 🙏
