Husband not responding to ADT

Posted by ericas @ericas, Jul 3, 2023

My husband was diagnosed with aggressive and advanced prostate cancer in spring 2022. Started Orgovyx in July 2022, and did 25 radiation treatments. At appointment 8 months later (3 months after radiation was done) we learned his testosterone barely decreased - went from 575 in July to 499. Oncologist said he'd never see someone not respond.

He then switched to degerelix. After one month testosterone went down to about 275, no where near the expected levels.

PSA of 16 in July 2022 is slowly declining and was 1.63 in June.

Has anyone experienced a resistance to ADT, without prior use of ADT? I know things are moving in the right direction, but at a snail's pace. I'm worried about the implications on his prognosis.

I have not heard of this, but glad the psa is decreasing.

I'm on orgovyx and hadn't heard of this before. I'm not being test for testosterone but my PSA has gone down so far, it's not likely an "indicated" test.
Of course, it could have been the drug or the radiation that lowered the PSA so radically. We won't really know till I stop the drug next year.
