HRT and prolia

Is anyone on Prolia and HRT. I’m so confused about starting HRT at age 70. My generation was screwed because we were told breast cancer would be a risk. Now it’s not. However some docs say to not start at 70 while many say it’s safe. But at this point, would it help with bone loss anyway? My skin could surely use it!!! And testosterone could help muscles and libido. My rheumatologist said I’d have to get off Prolia if I started full HRT while many disagree with that. I have been successful with Prolia for 13 years (knock on wood xxx). So I plan to stay on it. My internist only recommends HRT if one is experiencing hot flashes and night sweats. I do not and never have. I do fear melasma flare ups if I started full HRT.

Is anyone as confused as I am?

I started bhrt at 77 through a functional medicine provider. Estradiol patch and vaginal cream, testosterone, progesterone and a bit of dhea. I am also on Prolia. I started because I wanted my libido back and it works extremely well. I know it will offer some help to my bones too. At my age it is quality of life over quantity!

While I'm a big fan of HRT for bones and just about everything else for women, it's likely not going to help your bones while you're on Prolia. Prolia already reduces bone turnover by a bunch so adding HRT, that also slows down bone turnover, will have a minimal effect. I WOULD NOT STOP PROLIA to move to HRT either. You would be risking fracture for sure. Stopping Prolia is a whole different discussion.

I'm not sure why your doctor would say you have to stop Prolia to use HRT. While it might not help your bones, it should in other areas. But there are risks at older age and you would want to start with a low dose, based on what I know.
