How to tell the difference: diverticulosis or IBS? Or both?

I have diverticulosis and I'm pretty sure IBS as well . My question is how to tell which is bothering you at any given time . Seens like i could have symptoms if both ?

the diverticulosis is usually in the descending colon. mine is straight across from my navel. at least for me.

yes having IBS at the same time does make it hard to figure out which one is causing the problems. what does your doctor giving or doing for you? i was put on Remicade IVs. for Crohns disease. right now i'm in remission for that. you do know that Crohns, IBS, IBD, Colitis & Ulcerative Colitis are ALL in the same disease family? which affects the small intestine down to the lower colon with the rectum. have you had a recent colonoscopy?

My doctor so far has not given me meds or advice . I really haven't had much issue with pain unless i eat something to bother it . Just since yesterday that I've had this nagging little pain mid left above navel area . Weather is so nasty today with blowing snow so i don't feel confident to drive the 30 hiway minutes to urgent care . Hoping its not an infection ! Will go tomorrow for sure. Thanks for the reply .

My diverticulitis symptoms are usually consistent. Lower left side pain, rectal fullness ( from inflammation), nausea, lack of appetite, and then fever.

Thank you. 💕. I thought about getting my lower colon removed, as I’ve had about 8 cases of diverticulitis in the last 4 years. But my colonoscopy shows the disease affects my entire colon. 🙁

if you have the lower colon removed, they take it from the rectum to how much? would you have to have a colostomy bag? i know what the whole procedure is. but right now i'm having brain freeze. drawing a blank. sorry, d

Oh I'm so sorry , what a terrible thing this is . Surely you'd think that there would be better treatment for this considering how widespread it is now . Is no one doing research into this ?
