How to Monitor Hypothyroidism When on Both T3 and T4 supplements

Posted by stormpassing @stormpassing, 2 days ago

Hi all, I have been diagnosed with hypothyroidism for over a decade and for half of that time, I have been on both Levothyroxine (Synthroid) and Liothyronine (generic Cytomel). My physician does measure my TSH, FT4 and FT3 and while my FT4 and FT3 numbers are always within the appropriate range, my TSH is low. Is this typical when on both types of thyroid supplementation? I guess I'm beginning to question it because of some issues with temperature regulation and hair loss....but really, I don't have other signs of hyperthyroidism from too much supplementation. Does anyone else on both types of supplementation have a consistently low TSH? Thank you!

I have Hashimoto’s and Hypothyroidism. When I was first diagnosed, I was put on 112 Mcg of Synthroid and 5 mcg of Cytomel. Once my body got comfortable with that dosing, I began feeling too jittery, so I was taken completely off the Cytomel and then was put on 100 mcg of Synthroid. I did ok for a while and now just went to 1/2 of 112 mcg of Synthroid. I’m on day 4 and feel better, as my TSH was at the 0 marker. It could be a supplement that you’re taking or other medication that could be lowing your TSH. It can be quite frustrating to get your medication adjusted properly. It can take some time. Good luck!
