how to manage side effects of muscle, bone, and joint pain?

Posted by hlp123 @hlp123, Apr 2, 2022

I am using tylenol and ice packs and topical ointments to try to relieve pain in my joints, muscles and bones from side effects of osteoporosis medications. Does anyone have any other suggestions on how to relieve this pain? Some pain is so severe that I cannot even move my arms. Thank you

@hlp123 Your symptoms seem very severe to me and it must be so terrible for you. Have you talked with your doctor who prescribes this medication? I took osteoporosis medication for 5 years (Fosamax) and did not have such side effects. What medication are you taking?

I do have ongoing lower back pain from osteoarthritis. I don't know if this will help but I have used CBD lotion and that helped a bit. I also stretch and move around as much as I can when my back is very stiff and sore. Everyone has a different opinion on this but heat helped me too.

I do hope other posters will have some good suggestions for you.

There is some guideline for sprains and such that suggest using ice or cold packs the first day to minimize swelling and heat in subsequent days. When I hurt my back, a pro football player said the team doctor always used infrared heat rather than just dry or damp heat. He said they were told that infrared, which is more warmth than heat, Pentwater more deeply into tissue. But if you have pain in many areas, it's wise to see a doctor. If this is from meds, perhaps you can switch to another one or another class of osteoporosis meds. I hope you feel much better sooner in any case. Pain is exhausting among other things.

I really appreciate your kind suggestions for help dealing with the side effects of the medications. I had such severe side effects from the Prolia that I am now taking Reclast. Had my first infusion March 23rd. So far only two episodes of very sore muscle pain but they only lasted a day. I use ice bags and tylenol. I will definitely try the CBD oil. Thank you for the help. I am trying to stay positive and hope that my experience with Reclast is nothing like my experience with Prolia.
