Hi Aleena,

Did you have a total shoulder replacement? I know one golfer, male aged 72 who had a rTSR last October. He still can't gold.

Of course it varies by person, but regaining strength in the shoulder can take many, many months. You might be trying to get back to gold too soon. Suggest checking with your surgeon and PT.

All the best.

If you aren’t in any pain, I think you’ll need more pt of strength training. We lose muscle strength as we age by not always using all our muscles. I’m going through this with my back. It’s a slow process and has to be consistent in doing it daily or we lose again. Also, our nutrition and getting enough protein daily is important for muscle strength. I’ve learned most do not get enough protein needed. I drink protein shakes for I know I am not getting enough in my diet.
Be glad you’re not in pain and go slowly with your training to not injure yourself. Get a qualified therapist. Let us know how it goes or what you decide. Good luck.

I had a complex rotator cuff repair 6 months ago, and I have arthritis, bursitis and tendinopathy in my other shoulder. I was on enforced lifting and training restrictions for 5 months to heal before i was allowed to begin rebuilding strength, and now must progress slowly.
I am currently on PT regimen of two days of low weight range of motion exercises, 2 days of strengthening exercises with heavier weights, 2 days of isometric range of motion and resistance exercise - all alternating and one day off. After 4 weeks I've finally figured out a routine and am beginning to feel a little progress. It is important to work the core and back at the same time. I have an excellent PT who stresses proper form to keep the shoulder properly aligned.

If you had a reverse shoulder replacement, specific PT is really important to train your muscles to take over for parts li,e the rotator cuff that are no longer functioning. And your strength may always be more limited in that arm than before injury/surgery.

Did you have PT after surgery?

I do some exercises for a winged scapula. Just wondering if anyone know if this improves with exercises. It causes me pain and muscle spasms. I have to be careful of reaching out in front of me , for example washing windows. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Have you had a shoulder injury or surgery?
Whenever a prescribed exercise causes me pain, I consult my PT. Sometimes I find I am not using proper form or body mechanics while doing it. Other times, we figure out it is the wrong movement for me, and he finds an alternative one.
Have you consulted with a PT about this specific move?

Great summary Stress, thanks.

I'm getting an anatomical TSR in August. I am not a golfer and have never played racquet sports. I do keep my upper body strong. (I'm 70 y/o, male, former marathoner, both knees replaced and right hip).

I'm wondering how long after TSR surgery I can get back to lifting weights the same way I did before surgery. I know the answer includes "slowly". I'm just wondering if there will be permanent limitations to what I can lift. If anyone has experience with this, please let me know, and thanks in advance.
