HiToP muscle stimulation

Posted by simoneh @simoneh, Oct 10, 2021

Hi, has anyone any experience with small fibre neuropathy and electric muscle stimulation? I came across the High-tone muscle therapy at a physio, that uses high frequencies to stimulate muscles to encourage blood flow and therefore improve tingling. seems mainly for patients with diabetes and neuro issues but I wonder if other neuropathy patients can benefit? HiToP® high-tone therapy by Dr May.
Thanks for any info!!

Hi @simoneh, @lsn discussed using an anodyne machine in another discussion and may have some thoughts on the topic. I did a search of Connect and didn't find anyone discussing HiToP® high-tone therapy for neuropathy. There are other related discussions that you may want to look through to see what other members have shared.

Did the HiToP® help your neuropathy symptoms?

Thanks John! I had had a look at the links but I guess these are about implanted muscle stimulators. The HiTop one is a machine like the Tense, that you use once or twice per day.
I haven't used it, I guess I would have liked to connect to someone's experience first.
Thanks for your comment! S.

I haven't seen the HiTop device mentioned but I'm guessing it may be similar to a TENS device. There is another discussion I should have listed previously - TENS Units: https://connect.mayoclinic.org/discussion/tens-units/

When I first started searching for things that might help my neuropathy, I purchased a Zopec DT-1200 device which had some pre-programmed settings for neuropathy that you could tweak. I tried it multiple times a week for a few months and it really didn't help me. Other members in a local support group I found said it provided a little relief for them. It did provide a good laugh for me when my wife wanted to try it out to see what it was like. Her feet came off of the pads a lot quicker than when she stepped on them.

The HiTop device may be helpful but I would really do my homework before purchasing one. I can't tell you how much money I've wasted on neuropathy cures when there really isn't one.

@johnbishop @simoneh Interesting discussion. I found this article from 2008
https://professional.diabetes.org/abstract/high-frequency-external-muscle-stimulation-significantly-improves-symptomatic-diabetic
and this article
https://journals.lww.com/md-journal/FullText/2020/05080/Comparison_of_high_tone_therapy_and_transcutaneous.79.aspx
Although there isn't a cure for neuropathy it seems good to remain open to finding ways to help alleviate the pain while still using good judgement.
