hip revision surgery
82-year-old, male my hip replacements are 14/R and 12/L years old. I've been experiencing groin/hip pain. Orthopedic surgeon reviewed x-rays and both hips show wear and possible loosening, left more than right. He told me to stop gym leg strengthening weight machines. Said I should continue walking and add recumbent bike. I know I'm 82 but it is restricting my mobility. Would revision surgery be advisable.

I am no expert! My wife has had to have numerous revisions due to different circumstances! Perhaps a second opinion would better help you? My wife’s original orthopedic surgeon kept expressing that my wife needed to continue working with physical therapist and doing exercises. Went for a second opinion only to find high levels of Cobalt, Chromium and Staph infections! Hopefully you have none of these. However, be a strong self advocate! Best of luck 🤞
I'm wondering the same thing at 63 years old, with 14 and 15 y.o. Birmingham hip resurfacings.
My biggest problem is finding someone I trust to do them. I want someone very experienced with revisions for such an operation.
I'm in the southern tier of NY...Syracuse, Itahca, Albany would be best for me, if anyone has any recomendations.
Hello I had my total hip replacment 1 year ago posterior with cement.
All was fine the first 3-4 months. After that I started having pain from my back down outside of the thigh to knee. My doctors takes x rays every couple of months and says all looks fine and I probably have a pinched nerve. I have no swelling but sensitive to anything rubbing on my leg and every couple of weeks I get what looks like a mosquito bite on the scar. Does anyone else have this problem thanks.
Also my knee has been snapping since I had THR and the doc wants to replace it I have had 3 cortizone shots in it and 3 chicken juice shots that havent worked. Thanks.
PS I do have food allergies and have recently found out I am allergic to adhesive tape.

Curious to know how and when staph infection was found out? Was that before or during surgery?
Thanks
Doing her annual follow up appointment with her orthopedic surgeon they also did routine X-ray and blood work is when they found two types of staph infection along with increased levels of Cobalt and chromium. Which lead to further testing which lead to a complete removal of her hip implant, a medicated spacer implanted followed by 8-10 week of antibiotics through a port before receiving her sixth hip surgery. I should note that for a little better than 11 years her cobalt and chromium levels were elevated until this last revision when they went back down to normal levels
I wouldn't worry about your age. I am 80 and about to get a TKR and had a total hip replacement three years ago at 77.
My recommendation would be to find the best revision surgeon you can find even if it means traveling and get an opinion. Revisions are more difficult and complex that OEMs so finding a really good one is key.

There are implants out there that don't have cobalt and chromium. My knee replacement is made of oxinium which is oxidized zirconium. My hip replacement is made of titanium but I am not allergic to metals. The same company that makes the knee implant also has a hip implant made of the same material:
