Hip Replacement and Prednisone
The pain in my left leg has gotten to the point that I’m open to my doctor’s recommendation for a hip replacement. I’m taking 7.5 mg of prednisone a day for PMR.
Has anyone had a hip replacement while taking prednisone?

Hi, yes I've been at that level of Pred for all of my hip replacements and even though the surgeon kept saying I would heal slower, I healed on schedule with patients who were not on Pred. I hope this perspective helps.
ALL of your hip replacements? How many have there been? Did you have to redo?
I’m getting a little nervous about the surgery. Would you be open to sharing your experience?
My wife had Total bilateral in 2011, a revision on her Right in 2012 due to issues, a revision on her left in 2018 due to Cobalt / Chromium poisoning and in 2022 the complete removal of her Right implant, medicated spacer placed for 8-10 weeks with IV antibiotic, new revision hip implant placed. So, long story short, one can have more than one surgery ( revision). Today, her hips are not the issue, it’s her lower back, they say from using so much prednisone over the years for various treatments.
A good hip surgeon can get your hip replaced and have you up and moving in no time! Do a little research before it’s too late! Good Luck!
