High BUN/creatinine ratio on tymlos

Posted by cpog @cpog, 2 days ago

Hello, I have been on Tymlos for a month now, and my endocrinologist had me do a panel of blood work to check for kidney issues and my BUN creatinine levels were high. Normal is 12 to 28 and mine was 31 while a month ago it was half that amount. I just got these results back and my visit with my doctor isn’t until April 17. I am going to send her a note, but has anyone else experienced this while on Tymlos and what was the outcome?

Tymlos can affect the amount of calcium in your blood, which in turn can affect the kidneys. Normally it's not an issue, but it's best to discuss with your doctor. I wouldn't get stressed over a score that is barely out of range.

@njx58 Thank you for making me feel a bit better, I sent my Dr message about my concerns. I am concerned because I have lupus as well and have had kidney issues, almsost needing a bippsy at one point.

Hi, I started Tymlos three months ago (six clicks for the first two months and then seven clicks for month three). My Bun/Creatinine ratio was also 31 at the three month mark. I was told it was normal to see an increase and to make sure I drink plenty of water. I will get tested again in three months. So far, no other side effects.

It is a huge challenge to balance OP meds /supplements with kidney health…that’s one reason I continue to do a lot of research…helps with formulating questions to doctors.

Oh absolutely. My dr said to drink more water. I already drink plenty! Said it probably is dehydration. Nah it’s the Tymlos imo. Please let me know what your dr said. I’ve been on it 6 months. I seriously hate the stuff. Feels like I’m poisoning my body and brain. Every day I say no more but I push through another injection. Once in awhile I take a night off and skip one. It helps me cope.
I do notice about 5 minutes into the shot I have to urinate.
Warm wishes E

cpog, I'm on Forteo and my creatine and BUN are just above the norm also. My endo is not concerned. I know I'm dehydrated at times. I usually consume 4-6 8oz fluid on most days. Talk to your doctor.

@eileenvan Thanks for your response! I definitely could drink more water but I'm tiny and I don't want to feel waterlogged and have to pee a lot which I already do. I dont think that's the reason my numbers were high though, becausejust a month ago before I started tymlos, my BUN creatinine number was 16 versus 31. I just started my second month of tymlos. It's wierd you should mention peeing a lot after the injection. I notice it too for a while after my injection.

@leeosteo Thank you, I have an appt. in mid April with her. I am a bit more concerned because I have lupus and have had kidney issues in the past. I know I could drink a bit more and I am trying to do that,
