One of the gentlest and the most preferable and healthiest is by incorporating fresh fruits in your diet. Contrary to popular belief you do not have to eat a ton of it. Having one orange before you go to sleep and couple of prunes mid day followed by glass of water usually does wonders for constipation.
Stay hydrated - and I mean it ;). Coffee does not count as hydration. You need to have 6-8 glasses of water a day, even more if you are exercising or in hot weather.
Oatmeal for breakfast is extremely helpful, but guys tend to hate it, I do not know why. It is not extremely tasty thing BUT if you add cutup banana or strawberries, some coconut oil and vanilla extract - well, we are approaching "dessert" level of yummy.
Cooked vegetables like cabbage, carrots, zucchini, eggplant, as well as fresh lettuce, tomatoes etc, make poop very soft and guts moving nicely.
At the same time there are foods that will definitely slow you down and those are red meat, pasta, breads, pizza, white rice end similar, and things that are de-hydrating like alcohol and coffee, so if you have pepperoni pizza with glass of bear well, it is very probable that you will end up being constipated.
In case that natural and healthy methods do not work or you do not wish to bother (which would be a pity), you can use stool softeners like Colace or Milk of Magnesia which IMHO is better since it involves desirable and beneficial mineral Mg. You can find it sugar free and I would suggest that one. Colace is sodium (salt) and can effect blood pressure etc.
Jeff also mentioned Senna - it is plant derived and natural BUT it is "irritant" and it works that way - irritates gut lining and causes them to move. If you were "guts" wold you like that ? Senna should not be used for extended periods of time.
There are many products that are fiber based but be careful with bulking ones like Metamucil especially if you tend to NOT drink a lot of water. It might cause you poop to bulk up and to become semi-hard due to dehydration and it will be very painful event. You might like to try soluble fiber products like Citrucel .
With all supplements or products I would suggest that you start with very low doses and than adjust accordingly over many days to find the best dose for you.
Wishing you the best of luck 🙂 and don't give up trying things to help yourself since you do not want to end up having hemorrhoids or very painful fissures.
PS: Forgot to mention that you should check all supplements or vitamins (if you are taking them) to see if they contain calcium since Ca is VERY constipating mineral.

It is very well possible. I do not tend to constipate EVER since I basically live of fruits and veggies and I just do not tend to constipate. Actually I "go" 3 times a day but if I ever take Ca hidden inside any multivitamin or supplement - it is "game over" O-0 !
If your constipation coincided with starting new meds and Ca at the same time, it is possible that it is Ca that is causing your constipation. Just stop taking Ca for couple of days and see what happens. If you have some improvement but not complete resolution than Ca at least is contributing but is not the only culprit. If there is not change at all than medication is the cause.

Thank you so much for all your info. Very helpful. Sounds like you are a expert. Will Definity use some of your suggestions. I switched abiraterone acetate. From generic to Brand Zytiga. I have been on this med for over 5 years and the brand i was on had very few side effects.
I’ve been taking Miralax daily for the past 6 yrs after RARP cut something or other, making BM’s almost impossible. It works…
Strangely, Since SRT I am doing much better….weird
Hopefully you do realize that you cannot absorb more than 500 mg of calcium at one time. If you take more, it is just wasted. I take 500 mg three times a day and my calcium is still low, Near the minimum.
What was the previous med, and the new one?
I take one Colace and three Senna twice a day. That makes a major difference. Of course you can always use Miralax if that’s not enough.
There are many ways to combat constipation.

So, that's why I've had problems, huh? I'm taking 1200 mg of calcium supplement daily for bone health related to ADT. Thanks.

For me, a morning glass of prune juice and an apple.
Occasional stool softener too.
I only had constipation for awhile after my RP. Colace was recommended but it didn’t seem to help. I found Senna worked the best.
Good luck.
