Hi does anyone else have these symptoms. Muscle Twitches and Memory pr

Posted by tacundra01 @tacundra01, May 21 10:40am

I’m a 64 year old male. I feel like I’m losing my mind. I’m having moods swings, memory loss ,muscle twitches and balance issues. I have this intense fear of getting Alzheimer’s.

That's got to be very scary!

Have you been to a doctor lately?

I'm not a healthcare professional, but it seems that your symptoms could have other causes. An inner-ear infection, maybe. I've known people who had dental problems (like an abscess) that produced dizziness and mood issues.

Personally, I have found that worrying about something can cause me to hyper-focus on symptoms, causing me to sink into a downward spiral of worry, only to learn later that I was fine all along.

But by all means, please get checked out before you stress yourself out any further!

That's a good first step

Until then, try to stay calm.

Good luck!

Have you been to a neurologist for a full evaluation and testing? It sounds like you may need a MRI of your brain and cervical spine to check for changes that may explain your symptoms. You may also need a EMG/nerve conduction study of your upper and lower limbs and small fiber neuropathy skin punch biopsy. If you haven’t head extensive bloodwork recently, you should have it done to check for abnormal results.

Do you have heart disease, high blood pressure or diabetes? Do you drink alcohol, smoke, vape or do any recreational drugs? This can affect your brain/heart/lungs and vascular health.

Sorry to learn about your symptoms. However, it’s always reassuring to know you are not alone at least with the muscle jerking/twitching. I’ve been to a neurologist twice and had all the nerve tests done to rule out serious disease ie MS etc. Along with my muscle twitching I experience neck, face and shoulder pain. I also had an MRI of my spine and head. The neurologist wanted to rule out tumors since I am a three time cancer survivor. The only abnormality found was a small herniated disc which apparently should cause me so much discomfort. My muscle jerking seems to be worse when I lie down. I jump around like a fish out of water. I also have played around with my bp meds. I cut out amlodipine after reading the side effects that included muscle pain and jerking but after a week went back on the medication because the muscle problem did go away and my bp was going up. 🥹
I too feel like I’m loosing my mind! I continue to go to physiotherapy for temporary pain relief but it’s not long term unfortunately. I keep telling myself that whatever this is it hasn’t killed me after months of symptoms.🤞🙏

Do any memory issues?

Yes, so of that too. However, my age (72) may have something to do with that.

I have Central sensation syndrome I went to Mayo Clinic to find this out. Sounds a lot like my symptoms. It’s an auto amuine disease. It’s where your body attacks your system making you thing you have more pain than you already had. But it’s a lot more pain than a normal person would feel it is exhausting but it will not cause your demise but you may wish it would. Not a pleasant way to live! Have had pain stimulators put in my buttocks until the battery failed and I chose not to put it back in because you cannot have a MRI when you have a stimulator.

Wow! EVERY symptom you wrote about is what I’m experiencing. I also feel like I’m losing my mind. My GP was convinced it was nerve pain and put me on Gabapentin p. All that did was cause other symptoms, and I was dealing with enough symptoms as it was. After two visits to a neurologist any problems with my nerves was ruled out. I do have tightness in my face, neck and shoulders. The craziest thing is the muscle jerking when I lay down. Doctors have seen this, but absolutely no one can give me any answers. Thinking of trying a psychiatrist next. I’ve exhausted every other avenue.
