Hernia surgery after SBRT?

Finished Sbrt mridian Viewray Tx in September 2023. Have a small inguinal hernia that a surgeon told me didn’t need to be treated yet. But he also said laparoscopic/robotic not possible because of my radiation Tx. He said the only option for me was the old school open surgery, which has a longer recovery time and greater risk of chronic pain…great. However, not sure he’s correct. Any input/experience appreciated.

I had prostectomy, 8 weeks of radiation, I did have inguinal hernia surgery this year. Old school incision, due to cancer treatments prior. Recovery was 6 weeks of watching what I lift. Had mesh input. Feel good. No side effects for me.

I had 5 hernia surgeries after radical prostatectomy. Don’t know if they were related to the prostatectomy.

I recently two hernias removed at the same time. The doctor told me he had to do it the old fashioned way because I had surgery. Statistics show 4% have complications after the old fashioned way and 10% from laparoscopic. The recover time is longer for sure if you go the old fashion way. It took 3 months. Good luck your decision.

I had robotic removal of the prostate in September of 2022. I have an inguinal hernia at the location of the incision above my belly button. I am going to wait and see. I have a lot of pelvic pain currently and do not want to add to it. The good part is my PSA shows no signs of cancer. Wishing everybody the best. Try to laugh and be happy. It helps me get distracted from the pain along with my grandchildren

I had a hernia develop 1 year after my surgery. Ten years before, I had a hernia develop too. However it never bothered me; I just lived with it. But, when a got my second hernia a year ago, my first hernia enlarged and bothered my. I had them simultaneously repaired. The surgeon used the old-fashion method. I’m fine now; I have no sides effects and embrace life fully. Thanks be to God.
