Hi,
With SIBO it will need strong antibiotics to kill it, playing around with anything else is likely to strengthen it or delay recovery. It is a particularly nasty infection/bug that is best dealt to as soon as possible. I found it was not even possible to starve it out. I'm now permanently on antibiotics to stop me slipping back into SIBO.
Cheers
Thank you! Because I have had a terrible reaction to antibiotics, i.e. room spinning and crawling to the bathroom to throat up and not being able to get up from the floor for hours, I’ve decided to NOT take that route again!
Blessings, Lori
Hi,
I have that fight with all medications but when SIBO gets to the point I thought would die, I had to suck it up and mitigate my health. The meds are not pleasant but that is all that will kill off SIBO. It is amazing what you can put up with when you have no alternative. Had they not worked then the alternative is hugely expensive and more aggressive with a special formula diet. It is just a 2 week course with a modified diet. They can prescribe anti nausea medication and anti vertigo medication which I was grateful for. I got to the point with SIBO that I could not eat or drink without an explosive reaction, the reaction to the medication was the lesser of two evils for sure.
Good luck.
Cheers
I don’t have it as bad as you did! Thank God!
My GI doctor also has it and is open to me taking anything other than antibiotics! He has had it since twenty years old and takes a prebiotic! He’s very smart and is at Mass. General Hospital and used to work at Deaconess Hospital in Boston! Thank you for your replies!
Neem and oregano oil and garlic are a couple of natural things to take. Another may be diatomaceous earth. If you go that route be very careful to
1. Wear a mask so you don’t breathe in any of the fine dust. Can cause lung problems.
2. Buy only food grade.
What were your symptoms that brought you to test for SIBO?
Thank you!
I keep gaining allergies to more and more foods and diarrhea from many foods!
Hi,
No wonder he still has it, he's likely feeding it not killing it! It is an infection/ bug that must be killed to stop it. It mistyfies me a Dr doesn't understand that, not so smart. I think you should do your own research if that is his recommendation. At least get a second opinion from a Gastologist and stay away from anecdotal evidence. As I said before SIBO is not to be toyed with.
Prebiotics are what you take for probiotics to live on in the gut. If you have IBS severely then you must take the prebiotic for the probiotic to survive on while it becomes estabilished. Other wise you are feeding the so called yest enzymes making the flora in the gut even more unbalanced. Incidentaly onion is a prebiotic and a digestive.
Cheers
Let’s agree to disagree! Antibiotics kill both the good and bad bacteria! I also have Neuropathy which antibiotics is bad for!
I’m glad it had worked for you!
