(EDS OR VEDS?) Help me understand what's going on with my friend
My friend has EDS and his EDS affects his heart.
He finally saw a doctor about his EDS and got an official diagnosis. He also had genetic testing and found out he has a gene that makes him more likely to get heart and brain aneurysms. That’s scary enough, but it’s worse because he’s abused stimulants and amphetamines for five years, often mixing different ones and drinking energy drinks while high. He’s had some heart symptoms before but ignored them, hoping they weren’t real. They’ve gotten better since he stopped using as much. He doesn’t think he’s in immediate danger, but his doctor said he’s at serious risk. He has an echocardiogram scheduled soon. Also, he’s smoked before. When asked about heart meds, he said he’s not sure if any will help since most are for high blood pressure. His blood pressure is usually normal or low, even when he was using drugs. He still takes a few hits from his brother’s vape once or twice a day and is trying to cut back, but quitting nicotine is really hard.He also has the MAT2A heterozygous mutation linked to thoracic aortic aneurysms, and his history of drug abuse makes this mutation especially risky.
A cardio online said to look into Celiprolol or other beta-blockers. Any help , advice or words of support I can give him? I don't want to lose my friend.
