Heat & increase in pain

Posted by aunttonipage @aunttonipage, Jun 21 9:13pm

Has anyone else noticed an increase in issues during this heat? I live in Mississippi & the humidity is as bad as the actual temperature. We have had more rain lately but today was completely clear & the pain has been worse, along with the flushing in legs (that Dr says some people with PN have.)

Anyone else notice the increase in symptoms along with heat/hunidity?

@aunttonipage I have had more pain during the last few weeks.
I’m not sure it’s the heat. I do have the a/c running and it sometimes makes my feet cold. When that happens, they can become painful.
I live in the desert southwest so the temperatures are very high, but our humidity almost always less than 10%.

With my PN, both temperature extremes are uncomfortable for me. With the heat, my body doesn’t sweat like it should, so I have this feeling of internal burning. I try to avoid sitting out for long, but I do like our community pool, doing water exercises and being social. In the water, I’m ok (as long as the water isn’t too cold for my hands and feet!). I always try to be shaded by pool umbrellas when out of water. Gabapentin has done a wonderful job helping me tolerate the extreme swings in temperature my body does by itself internally, but when I expose myself to external stimuli, I will feel the discomfort. So I choose differently when I can or want to, but the situations I can’t avoid can be unbearable!

I, too, am struggling with heat and humidity. I live in unhealthy NYC air which also makes it difficult and I suspect that I have autonomic neuropathy which affects my heart. The AC is on all day and when I sleep--but I did not get any sleep last night as my legs were tingling away. My eyes are also sensitive to weather. Here weather is so changeable--we had cool and rainy and then heat plus a shower thrown in this morning. Yesterday, I tried jogging--one lap only around a ball field and that set me up for a day of misery. I am not taking any medications--just supplements. Any suggestions on how we are to manage this disease?

Increase in barometric pressure and weather fluctuations. If you read up on neuropathy they recommend you live in a cooler state. I live in Texas and can’t stand the summers of 100 plus degrees. I normally go see my husband in Germany during August to get away from the heat.

If you're talking about nerve pain, the warmer weather doesn't have any affect on me, and my arthritis pain is not as bad. Both my neuropathy and the osteoarthritis hate the cold, damp weather we have here in the PNW. It can occasionally get into the 90's during the Summer for short periods of time, and my 66 year old body definitely prefers the heat over the cold.

Heat and humidity dramatically makes my paraesthesia and numbness and stiffness worse. I don’t have pain.
