Have aches and pain in chest from GERD and Colitis. Tylenol helps

Posted by mikejjb123 @mikejjb123, Feb 10 12:13pm

I have GERD and Colitis. For years I would wake up to nausea. Now I wake up to chest aches and pain. Not my heart as I went to the doctor. Tylenol does help. Any ideas why this is occurring???? Thanks.

Curious as to whether or not you have had COVID? COVID made my reflux and IBS worse. Colitis and IBS are differerent, but, have some of the same symptoms. I am on Protonix 20 mg a day and 1 Pepcid AC at night which helps tremendous with GERDS. I have lost weight and still working on it which greatly helps GERDS, nothing to eat after 6:30 p.m. except an apple or skinnypop popcorn. Elevate the head of your bed, do not wear tight clothing around your waist, try and steer clear of caffiene, onions & acidic fruits such as pineapple. Try and not eat heavy meals. Drink lots of water. I have chest pain with GERDS when it is flared up and especially so after COVID. Since you are waking up with this, I'm wondering if you are having backup reflux, which can cause more pain. I take over the counter Gaviscon, 2 tablets before a meal if the GERDS is rough and I also take the Prince of Peace, Ginger chews. Also, have you hand an endoscopy to scope your esophagus to see if you have a hiatal hernia or something going on inside of your esophagus? This is a very painless and quick procedure. GERDS can cause chest aches and pains. Sometimes you have to switch toanother reflux medicine to get relief. Ask your doctor about this please. Keep me posted. I care. Praying for you.

I just bought the Acid Watcher Diet book. I have bad Gerd and plan to start eliminating acidic foods. There are so many foods that are acidic. Not fun!

Thank you so much for the kind words and insight. Was just thinking. Was taking Dexalent in the am and stopped in the pm per my doctor. Perhaps that is causing the problem as I am better as day goes along. Will try taking in the pm.

I started the keto diet for weight loss 3 months ago. Strict keto with very low (20grams) carbs daily. I am still significantly overweight but my GERD is gone. After about a month I was off my pepcid bid and protonix and even my tums at night unless I drink alcohol. I had read the keto diet "cured" GERD but was skeptical. I have been on medications for my stomach for decades and kept tums with me at all times due to nausea issues. Even called 911 when I thought I might be having a heart attack once - it was GERD.
And I am losing weight.
It will be a lifestyle change for me that I am slowly coming to terms with but it is also beginning to help my IBS although that has been a slow process.
