It was recommended to me as well. Being small (I weigh around 103) is a precondition for osteoporosis. You can start with a minimum amount of weight and add as you feel comfortable. It actually feels weird now, not to wear it while walking or hiking. Hope you like it😉

Same. I’m tiny as well - all that “weight bearing “ running etc doesn’t do much when you only weigh 105! My Dr also recommended it as did a PT person. I wear it around the house when I’m doing laundry and cleaning etc
Ps if you’re on instagram look for @gotbuffbones. In December she posted a comment discouraging vests for some people. She said the studies were limited and may be better for those already in good physical shape. IDK this is the frustrating thing for me - all the different opinions! Ugh! I’m wearing mine as it doesn’t cause pain or discomfort

This is all very individual. When diagnosed with osteoporosis I was in excellent physical condition; so it was truly shocking to receive the news. I think there is a common reaction to dial everything down out of fear. Since I have a good foundation of conditioning I lean toward weights; both weighted vest, lifting and resistance training now, rather than full on cardio as I had in the past. These are natural remedies that my body to date, has experienced no negative consequences. I will keep it up as long as I can. There is also the mental benefit that I believe is overlooked by the medical community.

hello @nannygoat5 ; reading your note it resonates with me. I am shocked as well, being very active, 53 and diagnosed with severe osteoporosis back in November. Honestly I am terrified of this diagnostic , but what I can do?! I refuse to take medication being so scared of all the side effects I have seen, hence doing more weights , 3 times /week and gave up running , while eating proteins and adjusting vitamins as good as I can. I think menopause have caused it for me (I am not on HRT) , plus lack of vitamin D which I neglected it probably for a few years. I am extremely sad and its comforting in a way to read similar stories , assuming I can learn from others too.

What are your dexa scan scores? What are your specific concerns about osteoporosis meds? I think you will find a wealth of knowledge and information here.

You are ME! You are not alone- I’ve berated myself and shed TON of tears. I don’t know ANY friends with this even though 33% of women receive this diagnosis. I hate to think of myself as fragile. I’m SO active. 🙁

hello @nannygoat5 ...and I am you 🙂 (I am sorry) ....my score is very bad on the spine at -4.8...in the back of my mind I still hope this is an error of the equipment , however I don't have the courage to redo it again, I will repeat it though in 2-3 months at least for my peace of mind. I am 53 ...and I am active, very active, but to tell you the truth I am afraid this days to do certain things (I used to play tennis for fun, once/week, not anymore since I found out..).
I'm a bit confused. Is this a recommendation for osteoporosis or?
yes for osteoporosis-just got it
