Has anyone had a RARP - Gleason 9 - T2c @ 81 yrs

Posted by ghansonsmoker @ghansonsmoker, Apr 14 6:04pm

Just had my Urologist go over my MRI, Biopsy, & PET scan. My Gleason score (4+5) = 9, PSA 7.01. I am told the cancer is contained within the prostate but suspect seminal vesicle invasion. No evidence of metastatic disease. I am told it is a T2c. I am in good health otherwise and my Dr believes I qualify for RARP surgery even at 81 yrs of age. I feel that that may be my best option after looking at Radiation & ADT results. Any thoughts out there?

If you are a T2c there can’t be seminal vesicle Invasion or you would be a T3b. Ask your doctor which is right.

If you would get a decipher score, they might be able to rule out the need for ADT If you come up with a real low number. Of course with the Gleeson nine they may not even want to consider it, Since you are already considered very likely to have reoccurrence.

I know people who are Gleason nine that went for 20 and 30 years without it coming back after having surgery or radiation. It just varies. You never know how long it will last..

It would be quite unusual to do surgery at your age. My brother at 77 had six months of ADT and five sessions of SBRT and he’s just doing fine at 80. They usually don’t like to do Surgery of someone is over about 75. The ADT was not a big deal for him. For you, they probably wanna do it for two years. If it’s really a problem, you can decide to stop at one year.

I’m 78 and I’ve been on ADT for eight years. It’s not great, but it’s not really a major problem.

I had surgery and then radiation after it came back. I was 62 when I had surgery. It’s pretty easy at that age at your age. It’s not gonna be fun..

There are some new techniques they’re using that make the surgery Less damaging. You may want look into that. Check out this message on the forum.
