Has anyone had a 2-stage reconstruction of ruptured tendon

I ruptured the tendon in (to?) my little finger in January. I opted out of reconstructive surgery (which had to be done right now) do to a trip.
But a floppy finger and discomfort in my hand has made me decide to have the stage 1 reconstruction done now whereby they put a silicon rod in the finger. I will then have Stage 2 done in the fall after my summer activities are over. Has anyone had this done? If so, were you okay with the rod in your finger pending the surgery?
