Has anyone else been discovered with Malrotation of the Intestines?

Posted by Digbyluv @judychurch, Oct 5 2:46am

They catch this earlier now, mostly in newborns, but I was 57 years old when I was diagnosed. I'm just wondering if anyone else here was diagnosed well into adulthood (major surgery). How are you doing now? Any hospital stays for a blocked bowel? I finally learned, after my third trip to the hospital for a blocked bowel (no surgery) that I can only eat ground meat and to chew my food thoroughly. Otherwise, I am asking for trouble!

Hello @judychurch, While you are waiting for members with experience to respond, I thought I would do a quick search of Connect for others who have posted about malrotation on the intestines. Here's a link to the discussions and comments from members - https://connect.mayoclinic.org/search/?search=malrotation.

It's good that you found out that chewing your food thoroughly helps some. Has your doctor or care team provided any other suggestions that help?

Hi John,
No, the doctors did not give me any suggestions as to how to avoid having another blockage, I learned this by trial and error. I no longer eat any meat in the form of steaks, chops, etc, as experience has taught me that it stands a good chance of giving me a blockage. I also drink a LOT of water throughout the day. Thanks for your response!
