Has anybody heard of Mayo’s program on chronic pain and the brain?
I have heard that Mayo Clinic has a two or three week program that helps people with chronic pain by redirecting their brain. Has anybody heard of this and, if so, do you know who to reach to find out more about the program?

Does that involve TMS Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation?
I'm not sure but I don't think so. It's more training to change the brain pattern of pain and it's taught through various ways...i.e. meditation, breathing.
Like most other ailments they need to find the cause and try and treat that and not the symptoms. There's also prayer, but might as swell kneel in front of a wishing well!
There is a pain rehabilitation clinic at Mayo that does what you suggest - you can read about it here:

If you think it might help you, you can contact Mayo for more information:

I went through Pain Rehabilitation beginning about 5 years ago - not through Mayo, but an outpatient program offered by my provider. It gave me back my life, teaching me to manage the bad times and improve my ability to live a semi-normal life in spite of many issues. It involved changing my entire outlook from trying to eliminate chronic pain to learning to live with it and to know my limits.
Yes, I have participated in this program. I am nine months out.
This is a remarkable program and I am forever grateful for having gone through it. Totally helped me to manage my pain. Taught me how to manage difficult days. I keep up with all that I have learned.
Reach out to Mayo Clinic Jacksonville. The Pain Rehabilitation Clinic (PRC).
Dr. Sletten. Also, the website explaining the program is extremely helpful.
Thank you so much! My husband was thinking phoenix would be a better place to go. Do you live in Fl? We live in Austin.
@sueinmn
I just checked out the program. Unfortunately, I don’t qualify. I’m in constant pain all over, but especially my back.
Because I have Cognative Impairment learning new things is hard for me and that’s a problem with the program.
Thank you so much for your reply. I have just discovered this Mayo Connect forum.
I live in Alabama, drove to Jacksonville. I would feel very confident about the PRC program in Phoenix as well.
But, I have to say that Dr. Christopher Sletten, the head of the program in Jax is absolutely incredible. And, his entire team is great.
I still connect from time to time on the zoom aftercare program which is offered every week on Monday. It’s very comforting to know that you can always reach out if you have questions/issues you need to discuss. Or, simply join to listen to others who have gone through the program.
@dcdusek, like others have mentioned, the program you described is called the Pain Rehabilitation Center (PRC) at Mayo Clinic. The 3-week program is offered at all 3 campuses in Phoenix, Arizona; Jacksonville, Florida; and Rochester, Minnesota.
I believe @alh123 attended the program at Mayo Clinic in Arizona.

@dcdusek, do you have any questions you'd like to ask about the program?
Yes I went a couple of years ago . Happy to answer any questions . Very positive experience. However , It didn’t change my life very much like others have found . The level of supervision , support and socialization did not translate to my circumstances at home and so I gradually went back to my previous situation , sadly .
