Had to stop taking Teriparatide due to high calcium in urine
I was taking Teriparatide for a bit over 6 months and I really did not have any unpleasant side effects, however, before I started the daily injection, my 24 hour urine for calcium was mildly elevated (295). Taking Teriparatide kept increasing my calcium in my urine which put me at great risk of kidney stones, so I stopped taking it recently. Having high calcium in your urine or serum is one of the serious side effects of this drug. I did, however, have an excellent response to it 3 months into for my P1NP (baseline was 68 and after 3 months of teriparatide, it went up to 250). If any of you out there take this type of drug, including Tymlos, and have not done so already, ask your endo to order a 24 hour urine for calcium to be on the safe side. Two days after stopping Teriparatide, I had my first Reclast infusion to hold in any gains that I achieved from the Teriparatide. The side effects from Reclast is not fun. I experienced upper body muscle pain, headache, feeling cold and took Tylenol to help ease the discomfort and hydrated before, during and after the infusion. The morning after, it felt like I was hit by a truck, but it did get better and I have not had to take any more Tylenol since yesterday morning and today is 4 days after the infusion.
