Had anyone had elbow infection/ septic arthritis?
I fell on the concrete and I broke my elbow and ulna . I had my radial head implant surgery in October 2024. The doctor also repaired my ligament and ulna. I always complained about pain and stiffness. I couldn’t extend or flex my arm fully . Physical therapy was helping to regain strength but my elbow was very stiff after 2 1/2 months of therapy . Two weeks ago, I experienced an uncontrollable pain and the orthopedic sent me a MRI to see what was happening- and it showed I had elbow infection/ septic arthritis.
I had an emergency surgery where the orthopedic performed irrigation and debridement . He removed the old implant and put a new one .
They performed a culture tissue test where they found I have Staphylococcus aureus.
I’m taking strong antibiotics for 6 weeks to kill the bacteria and IV antibiotics as well .the infection desease doctor says I may have to take antibiotics for life since this bacteria can come any time because they like metal implants . I’m very say 😞 I’m looking for second opinions and maybe remove the implant so I can be out of risk of the bacteria .
Anyone that can help me ? 😞
