Graves disease & epileptic
Hi and thanks for letting me join your group.
My daughter has graves disease, epilepsy and she's had a cerebral hemorrhage. Her endocrinologist has her on a synthetic thyroid med which is making her worse. She wants to try bovine thyroid but her endocrinologist refuses to prescribe it to her.
I've been doing some reading, and all her symptoms are related to her thyroid. We're from Central Iowa. Do any of you people have a great endocrinologist that believes in homeopathic treatment?
It's hard for me watching my daughter drift away. Thanks

Hi, I have read your daughter's story and I have a few comments. First of all, I myself moved to Central Iowa about seven years ago and just want you to know that the doctors and endocrinologists here do not understand Grave's disease. I was a Mayo Clinic employee and developed Grave's disease 20 years ago. When I had my RAI they told me I would be treated differently than someone with hypothyroidism that still has a thyroid. You treat more off of the symptoms than the labs but as far as the labs go that your TSH can be low as long as your T4 is in the normal range. I functioned perfectly fine like that for years till I moved here. The doctors here do not understand that and change your medication when they shouldn't. Right now they have my medication and TSH so messed up that I have what I would call a frozen metabolism. My advice to you is to get your daughter to an endocrinologist who specializes in Graves disease either in Rochester or the University of Iowa. I understand this will be hard because they get very defensive when you tell them they want a referral, but she can get the help she needs if she gets to the correct physician. I wish you well!
I have a history of hyperthyroidism/ Graves’ disease (20ish years ago). Don’t remember exactly how it was treated but is normal now. My endocrinologist said that overtime it can flip to hypothyroidism. My mother had this happen but was not diagnosed or treated like me. My endocrinologist continues to test and monitor me for that. I am a firm believer in having a knowledgeable and thorough endocrinologist. I am also diabetic. My husband had thyroid cancer. Our wonderful endocrinologist has cared for it all. There’s hope.
