Getting 2nd opinion at Mayo Jacksonville

Posted by birdman518 @birdman518, Jul 19 8:36am

Hello all, I have posted here many times about my experiences with my cervical radiculopathy and how my ACDF for C3-C7 did not fix my arm and hand pain (bi-lateral).
I have the chance to drive thru Jacksonville in October. How should I go about getting a consulatation with a neurologist there for a specific date?
I do have at least 2 or 3 recent imaging studies, including an MRI and CT scans. Will that be acceptable, or will they insist on doing their own? The latter would be problematic as I cannot normally get an MRI due to my pacemaker.
Thanks!

Hi there

I am scheduled for second opinion with MAYO in Phoenix in August. When scheduling they stated I would need new MRIs, x-rays and bone density study. I had just had an MRI done in December, and was having a hard time getting my insurance to approve another one just for a consultation.

I managed to get through via phone to the nurse of the physician I’m seeing and she said don’t worry about it, bring what you have on disk, and then the doctors will order any additional films if they need them.

I would not go out of my way to get an additional MRI since it seems to be quite the process for you with your pacemaker.

Good luck and fingers crossed you will find an answer to your pain issues.

Thanks for sharing. I get why they want new images, but I will have to insist that they accept my recent MRI for this to work for me. It took me over a year to get the MRI done before!

Hi, I posted a while ago about my Brachial Pruritus. That manifest for me with arm itching that originates in the cervical spine. See here: https://connect.mayoclinic.org/discussion/this-stretch-helped-relieve-my-brachioradial-pruritus/

My wife suffers from chronic shoulder and arm pain that apparently has a similar origin (cervical spine nerves contacting surrounding tissue).
When she does the stretching that I use for relief from arm itching she gets pain relief as well. She still takes her pain meds but uses the stretching for relief on bad days. And I think, possibly has fewer “bad days” by stretching daily as a proactive measure.
I just thought I’d share this with you as a possible help.
I’m no medical professional, but just another patient in the struggle, hoping my discovery might help some others in their struggle.
