GERD with Reclast?

Posted by janism @janism, 2 days ago

I started my treatments with Alendronate but had to discontinue almost immediately because of GERD.

I went on to Tymlos (no side effects) and am now on Evenity (no side effects). My provider recommends Reclast next, it would begin this summer. Anyone experience GERD with Reclast? From what I've read here and elsewhere Reclast does seem to be the obvious next step. I have no other health issues and no other medication (and want to keep it that way for as long as possible--I'm almost 69).

janism, you are unlikely to experience GERD with Reclast because it is an infusion and so bypasses the stomach and esophagus moving directly into the bloodstream. Some people do have intense side effects with the medication. If you decide on Reclast, ask your doctor if they will prescribe a lower dose with a slower at least 30 minute infusion. The slower infusion will protect your kidneys and give your body more time to process the drug. You might also ask for bone markers CTX and P1NP. This because Reclast is often as effective every two years as it is every year.
Some people have terrible side effects and swear, "never again." But others have mild side effects.
Best luck with your choice.
