Gastritis symptoms for 7 months on/off

Posted by craigjulian @craigjulian, Feb 22 4:03pm

About 7 months ago, I had too much alcohol and food one night and the next day I was sick with nausea, burning in my upper GI, bloating, gurgling, and completely miserable for almost 7 weeks. I went to the ER during this time and had an abdominal CT scan and labs and all were normal. I started omeprazole for 2 weeks that did nothing and avoided all the trigger foods. It finally went away after 7 weeks. Then, about a month after it went away, I had another night of moderate drinking and some fatty foods, and it came back. This time is lasted 10 days. I am going through another bout now that is going on 9 days and I didn't have any alcohol, only heavy food this time. I am Completely miserable with nausea, bloating, burning in middle upper GI, constant belching, and just plain sick. I have cut out everything from my diet- NO booze, caffeine, fried foods, citrus, and carbonated drinks but it's not going away.
I have another GI appointment in 2 weeks. I don't know if this is gastritis, IBS, or something else is going on. So frustrating. H-pylori is negative also. Anyone else had something like this?

I hope they can figure it out. It sounds very distressing and painful. I’m seeing gastroenterologists, but for other reasons. I hope you get some feedback.

Have you had a food sensitivity test done? Many foods that I was eating I was actually sensitive to. Also are you eating a lot of fiber? I can’t. And staying hydrated? I must drink 64 oz water daily. Have you cut out coffee? I have finally found a low acid decaf coffee that doesn’t bother me.
Good luck.

Where did you find that coffee?

Ulcer? Maybe meds are a trigger, just not foods?

Rather than simply GERD many Drs miss Bile Acid reflux also diagnosed by EGD. The two best treatments that helped me for bile reflux is Dr prescribed Carafate and Questran. Best wishes in finding relief. I also make iced green/ginger tea which is helpful.

I have GERD, GASTRITIS, and Ulcerlative Colitis. My issues started just like you. I had been and continue for almost 5 years to find the "Fix." There is no one size fits all solution. You must find out what works for you! If you are on meds find out if maybe taking in the morning or night is better. Foods are hit or miss. In time you will find what to keep away from etc. I have been to doctor upon doctor. Everyone had another opinion. Good Luck.

I have bile reflux and it is so much more caustic to my esophagus. I have tried carafate. But it did nothing. I have alot of gi issues and have a feeding tube into my small intestine. I also have chronic pancreatitis and get an egd and eus and biopsies of my esophagus and barrett's esophagus and a celiac block every 2 months. My common bile duct and pancreatic ducts are dialated and pool. Now my colon is badly dialated and I seem to be unable to pass anything not even gas. The pressure is horrible. Any idea's? I would appreciate any help with this.

I have lost faith in all my specialists. They say I'm complicated. I am at a loss of what to do. I have so many specialists and no answers 😩
