I have had abdominal pain for 4 months. It migrates to all four quadrants. I cannot tie the pain to any specific food intake as it can appear even before I eat. I thought it could be caused by the Fosamax that I am taking for my osteoporosis. ( I discontinued it in December.)
My rheumatologist ordered upper and lower ultra sounds. The only remarkable result was gallstones ( no inflammation of the gallbladder, however) , so he referred me to a surgeon. The surgeon said that she couldn’t guarantee that removing the gallbladder would end my pain, so she referred me to a gastroenterologist.
An endoscopy was performed. I was told I had inflammation of the stomach and was put on pantoprazole 40 mg. once a day. Liver enzymes were normal. Lipase and amylase were slightly elevated but upon retesting 5 days later were normal.
After 3 1/2 weeks on the PPI, I was still in pain so an MRCP was ordered. Except for the stones, everything was normal.
I don’t know where to go from here. Could those gallstones be causing all this pain?

Hello @ldawn, you may notice I moved your post to a discussion titled, "Gallbladder surgery." I did this so your message could be seen by all of the members discussing gallbladder issues. While we wait for other members to join in, would you mind sharing a bit more? Did you discontinue your Fosamax under the guidance of a pharmacist or your medical provider? Sometimes, stopping a medication can have all sorts of different side-effects. Did your provider talk about how big your gallstones were or what your course of action is in regards to the stones?

Hi. I’ve been having pain in my upper abdomen and lower ribs contestany for two weeks. The pain can get severe every day. I am also nauseous at times and have little appetite. It’s hard to do very much because of the pain. Anyone else had these symptoms? Any idea what it could be?

I am still feeling bloated and a feeling of way too much stomach acid. Apparently gallbladder removal is a "gift" that keeps on giving very undesirable symptoms. I am now 4 months post OP. Anyone else out there feeling the same symptoms??

Hello, I am still having constant pain in my right side where the gallbladder used to be. It will also go into my side and back. The pain will also off and on move into my upper abdomen and to the left side. I’ve been through so many tests and everything is coming back ok. I’m still not able to eat much and have lost so much weight. I am now under weight and feel so weak. The pain makes it hard to eat and just walking much makes it hurt more. I don’t know what to do or how to get better. I’m scared of continuing to get sicker and sicker and dying. Not to be dramatic but I feel this way sometimes. I need help but no one seems to know how to help or why I’m having the pain. I used to be a very active person and always making people laugh and a normal functioning person until I had my gallbladder removed. I am unable to work now. I have two children that I need to be here for.

Those symptoms also correlate to issues with the pancreas, liver, and/or the ducts leading away from them. What tests have you been through? If you are not getting answers, then think about searching elsewhere. This is when a referral to a facility like Mayo is very valuable. What you are describing isn't normal. I had my gallbladder removed and after recovery from the surgery I have never felt better.

Hi, thank you for your reply. I’m glad you are better after your gallbladder removal. I’be had bloodwork done, ct scan,, ultrasound, mrcp and an EUS, nothing is showing up. I feel like someone needs to dig deeper to find what is causing my symptoms. I need help and I can’t live like this but i’m trying to stay strong and keep pushing through. I would love to get help from the Mayo Clinic and have thought about trying to see if they’d accept me as a patient. That may Be my next step.

after gallbladder surgery (july 1017) i still get at times pain under the right rib. I also get nausea. however i had put on 15 lbs since that gallbladder removal. i still blame all of this on my fundoplication surgery ( 2.3 years ago) that i still get mouth burn sensation, throat burn sensation. all tests indicate no acid reflux anymore. Also the visual from the endoscopy indicates there is no signs of bile in my stomach that may cause the sensation of heartburn. No one seems to know why. i still have problems drinking water, as it acts like it won't go thru. ... I suggest that for the nausea you take zofran ( or it's generic ondansetron) to help with the nausea. have you had a recent endoscopy?... kozlo52

I had my gallbladder removed Jan 11th, 2019 I can’t say I made the right decision to have my gallbladder removed. I had a gallstone that was big so I was told I need surgery. It started with pain in my right side it last 2 1/2 days straight. Went to the ER and was told I needed surgery. Since surgery feel nausea a lot, bad stomach pains where I’m crouch over crying in pain. My incisions was glued together when my boyfriend was taking off my dressings I passed out twice. Then started shaking as if I was freezing. I couldn’t get in and out of bed without help it was very rough. I almost passed out again a week after surgery. Went to the ER because I was passing out and shortness of breath. They keep me overnight ran ever test and everything came back fine. I have been consipated due to pain meds. The laxative is working. I still get sharp shooting pain above my belly button. Where my gallbladder was at I still get the pain in my right side that travels to my back. As far as food goes I can eat almost anything. I tried a cornbeef sandwich and was in the worse of pain. After surgery I only had broth, rice, turkey, jello and fruit. Then I started to slowly introduce other foods. I did buy some wristbands that helps with feeling nausea it amazing I love them only cost $12.00 at Rite Aid Pharmacy. My follow-up appointment is in another week. I’m always tired and feeling so weak. I have pain even when I don’t eat I can feel the difference when I eat something that’s hard to digest. It has been a rough recover for me. Anyone going through what I’m going through I wish you the best of luck with recovery. I’ll admit sometimes a little support goes a long way.
