Gallbladder surgery a year later

Posted by meredith81876 @meredith81876, Mar 16, 2022

My daughter had her gallbladder removed last January. And they had a blood vessel bleed that was clamped during surgery. Her post op was bad and she was on an all liquid diet for a while. It looked like it was improving then in November (6 months ago) things took a turn for the worse 5 specialists later and a ton of medications and she still is so nauseas all day can’t eat really losing weight and collapses sporadically from syncope episodes. All lab work shows nothing abnormal ultrasound was normal and I am scared she’s just not improving. I asked for them to order a cat scan. I am concerned as to why she’s now 💯 times worse a year later. The surgery made things unbearable. She can’t go to school or work or eat barely. She has tried tons of meds for symptoms. Nothing works. Gastric emptying scan was normal. Although she has to be on motegrity and mag 07 in order to even move bowels. We have an appt with NY next month. But I am scared for her. We have no answers. Please help

How old is she ?? It sounds awful for her . It’s especially frustrating when you have tried everything and all tests look normal. Which hospital 🏥 in NY will you go to ? I went to 5 Gastro Drs in 2 states in 8 years and had over 15-20 tests done . Including Mayo Clinic Jacksonville in Oct 2021. I have 6 diagnoses tried everything and still so sick in gut and intestines every single day and night . No one can help me . I’m 60 started at 52. She’s so young …. I pray 🙏 you get the right Dr. that could help .
People tell me to go to a functional medicine Dr. But we spent over 5k out of pocket last year in co pays and max out of pocket for insurance. Those Functional medical Dr’s or Nuropathic do not take insurance.
I’ve already tried many holistic approaches and everything RX and everything they make for gut health. I live on Ultra Pepto. Strange thing is as little as I eat , I can’t lose weight. I eat small and healthy. I Belch over 2000 x a day/ night w/ non stop churning 24/7 .
🙏🙏. Praying for her .

Thank you. I do pray for you too. She’s 18 We are going to try MT Sinai. She takes Elavil, Periactin, Prilosec 40 mg, motegrity 10 mg, Mag 07 for bowel movement. Nothing helps. Have you had nuclear testing ?

Hello @meredith81876, I would like to add my welcome to Connect along with @rozy288 and others. I cringed when I read about your daughter's gall bladder surgery. It sounds eerily similar to my wife's gall bladder surgery 15+ years ago. My wife almost bleed out during what I was told was a routine gall bladder laproscopic surgery. We were referred to Mayo Clinic Rochester who did a followup surgery to correct the problems caused by the first surgery. I think it's good that you are seeking help at a major hospital like Mt Sinai.

I think my wife's problems were caused due to bile drainage problem after the surgery. I think the bile duct may have been nicked during the surgery but we really don't know. We had a consult with Mayo after being referred there by the first surgeon and that's when they said they would like to do another surgery. It was an uncomfortable discussion. We were not looking to blame the first surgeon but just wanted the problem corrected. The second surgery and recovery went well for my wife. My wife lost almost 100 pounds while she was sick during this time and she has kept it off so we did have a plus from her experience.

Praying that both you and your daughter get some answers and a treatment that helps. When is your appointment at Mt. Sinai? Can you let us know what you find out?
